The Essence of a Godly Woman: A Biblical Blueprint

Being in the company of Godly women with a true heart for God, is always noteworthy. My recent experience at an all-night fellowship where I had the pleasure of locking away with some of my sisters for tarry night, was a profound reminder of this as we leaned in to understand the true essence of a godly woman.

FYI – in case you are new to the concept of ‘Tarry Night”
Tarry nights are steeped in prayer and worship, and they offer a refreshing sanctuary away from life’s busyness. It’s a gathering of women desperate for the heart of our King, who find pleasure in retreating to sit at His feet and love on Him. These gatherings are rich! refreshing! and spiritually enlightening…to say the least. T
arrying also draws you to a place of self-introspection…which is good for any woman who wants to grow in God.

The Biblical Blueprint of a Godly Woman

As we explored what it means to be a Godly woman, rather than focusing on renowned biblical heroines, we delved into the foundational verses of Genesis 1:26-28. These verses, often overlooked in women’s bible studies, provided us with a fresh perspective on our identity as daughters of God.

26 Then God said, “Let Us (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) make man in Our image, according to Our likeness [not physical, but a spiritual personality and moral likeness]; and let them have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the cattle, and over the entire earth, and over everything that creeps and crawls on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 And God blessed them [granting them certain authority] and said to them, “Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth, and subjugate it [putting it under your power]; and rule over (dominate) the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and every living thing that moves upon the earth.”

Genesis 1:26-28 (AMP)

Characteristics of a Godly Woman

These verses highlight that a Godly Woman is known for:

Reflecting God’s Likeness: We are made in the spiritual and moral likeness of God (Genesis 1:26). The Godly woman exudes the likeness of God

Fruitfulness and Multiplication: Our calling includes being productive and multiplying our kind (Genesis 1:28). The Godly woman produces more patterned after her character.

Living in Kingdom Authority: We’re entrusted with dominion and stewardship over God’s creation (Genesis 1:28).

Now, before I dive deeper into these simple truths that we were blessed with in our session, let’s note the importance of going back-to-basics. We get so caught up in the next best thing sometimes, that we miss out on what’s already in our hands. By ensuring that the basics are properly set, we are better positioned to attend to everything else.

The Importance of Spiritual Foundations

Luke 6:47-49 emphasizes the significance of solid foundations in our spiritual journey. Just as a well-built house withstands storms, a life rooted in biblical truths can endure life’s challenges. Skipping foundational teachings may seem convenient, but it leaves us vulnerable when trials arise.

“47 Everyone who comes to Me and hears My words and [a]acts on them, I will show you whom he is like: 48 he is like a man building a house, who [b]dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock; and when a flood occurred, the [c]torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. 49 But the one who has heard and has not acted accordingly, is like a man who built a house on the ground without any foundation; and the [d]torrent burst against it and immediately it collapsed, and the ruin of that house was great.” Luke 6:47-49 (NASB)

Godly Hallmarks

She reflects God, allowing those she encounters to experience God through her. Through their interactions with her, people see the character of God and are drawn to Him. It is by spending time in the presence of God that she is shaped into His likeness.

She is a good steward of the gifts, talents and resources that God has blessed her with. She makes full use of these in ways that glorify God and advance the work of His Kingdom here on earth. Beyond this, she seeks out opportunities to nurture/develop Godly character in others.

She sets her house and the affairs of her household in order. Chaos and confusion are not the products of her hands. She walks in boldness, confidence, and courage. This can only come from knowing Whose she is and who she is in Him. She has found her identity in Christ and is confident about what He has said concerning her. This is a woman who spends time in prayer and in the Word.

Embracing God’s Blueprint for Us

As Christian women, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by expectations. However, God’s blueprint for us is rooted in love, aiming not to overburden but to uplift and empower. Embracing these principles doesn’t just enrich us spiritually; it also connects us deeply with the heart of God.
